the process of becoming stronger and more confident,
especially in CLAIMING OWNERSHIP oF one's life and rights
In 2017 I had a shocking realization.
Everything I had ever done in my entire life had been in service of external validation.
The men I dated. My work as an actor. How I interacted with my family. The friendships I kept. My “self-care” routine.
WHEN I SAY EVERYTHING - I MEAN EVERYTHING.
And the truth was - I was getting “validated.” I was booking acting gigs in New York – which is like statistically impossible. I had men lined up out the door, ready to take me to dinner. I threw parties that fifty plus people would show up to.
BUT IT WAS NEVER GOING TO BE ENOUGH AND IT WAS GOING TO USE ME UP.
The truth is, if you want everyone to like you, let alone, love you, you have to lower your expectations. I mean, REALLY lower them. To the point that someone “liking you” is at best well concealed co-dependence and at worst just blatant exploitation of your resources – physical, spiritual, or otherwise.
I NEEDED CHANGE.
I NEEDED A MIRACLE.
So. I set out on a pilgrimage. Literally.
I went to a retreat in the woods where we surrendered all our technology, meditated on our deepest desires, gorged on delicious vegetarian food cooked by silent Sufi chefs, danced naked by bonfires…
It changed my life.
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER I FELT WORTHY. SURE, I HAD KNOWN, INTELLECTUALLY, THAT I HAD VALUE. BUT KNOWING AND FEELING ARE TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.
The retreat inspired me to begin leading meditation and empowerment events for women. I am by no means an enlightened, empowerment guru. But I’m damn good at making space for others to express, explore, and embark on their own path to self-actualization.
If you have ever felt called to dig deeper, to scream louder, to love unconditionally, and to live with optimistic abandon - I invite you to join me.
The world needs you. Every inch of you. The good. The bad. The ugly. The beautiful.
SO, LET'S GET STARTED. SHALL WE?
